In 1829 Felix Mendelssohn visited the Scottish Island of Staffa. There he was so taken by the power and mystery of the landscape and the sea that he began the extraordinary The Hebrides better known as Fingal’s Cave. Hear this and the Violin Concerto No 3 – perhaps one of the greatest concertos of all time and the joyous Italian Symphony when the RTÉ Concert Orchestra is joined by conductor Gavin Maloney in a celebration of the work of Felix Mendelssohn.
