‘There was not a dry eye in the house, not least because of the eye-watering beauty of having the score freshly created in front of us as the movie rolled.’ Classical Music Magazine, 2014
Brief Encounter – David Lean’s 1945 black and white cinematic masterpiece – is often voted the most romantic film of all time on the big screen. It is the story of the chance meeting of a married doctor and a suburban housewife on a train platform. They inadvertently but quickly progress to an emotional love affair, which brings about unexpected consequences. The film brought to fame Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with its lush emotional landscape.
Experience this romantic classic on the big screen while the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, pianist Michael McHale and conductor David Charles Abell bring the music to live on stage below.
Starring Celia Johnson & Trevor Howard with Stanley Holloway, Joyce Carey and Cyril Raymond.
Directed By David Lean
Produced by Noel Coward. A Noel Coward-Cineguild Production.
