A not-to-be-missed programme of operatic treasures.

Lensky’s Aria (‘Kuda, kuda’) from Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin is a heart-rending leave-taking of life as the young poet, Lensky, confronts the tragically inevitable outcome of the duel which he awaits.

The yearning, lovelorn‘O wie ängstlich’, a tale of derring-do as the hero Belmonte seeks to rescue his beloved from the harem of a Turkish Pasha, is a treasure of the tenor repertoire.

In his first, striking setting of Shakespeare, Verdi reserved one of his most memorable arias for Macduff, fateful nemesis of the titular Macbeth, who vows vengeance on the tyrant for his murdered wife and children in ‘O figli… Ah, la paterna mano’.

On a decidedly lighter note, ‘Dein ist mein ganzes Herz’ (‘You are My Heart’s Delight’) from Franz Lehár’s operetta The Land of Smiles is the perfect vehicle for a tenor voice: romantic, impassioned and effusively lyrical.
