“Opera’s coolest soprano” joins RTÉ NSO following Covent Garden Triumph
Friday 27 July at the National Concert Hall
Superstar soprano Danielle de Niese, hailed as “opera’s coolest soprano” by New York Times Magazine, teams up with the RTÉ NSO for the first time this month, hot on the heels of her major triumph at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden singing Musetta in Puccini’s La bohème. “Danielle de Niese…is magnificent” says Opera Today. “outstanding” says Opera Spy. ” unforgettable” says The Stage.
Emotion-filled songs and show-stopping opera arias are all part of the plan. Popular arias by Gounod, Rossini, Bizet and Delibes showcasing some strong-minded women are to the fore. Delicious songs include four gorgeous ones by Duparc, where love in many of its guises leaves music which is variously sensuous, kind of sad and beautifully intimate, and Lara’s anthemic Granada, its unabashed, celebratory passion shot through with sun-kissed allure and irresistible romance.
Danielle is a busy lady. Recently, she fronted “Unsung Heroines: Danielle de Niese on the Lost World of Female Composers” on BBC Four. Check out her very interesting piece on it in The Guardian. Click here.
