RTÉ Music in the Classroom

National Concert Hall, October 3, 4, 17 & 18, 2016

For more than 25 years RTÉ’s Music in the Classroom concerts have brought the excitement, beauty and sheer fun of live orchestral music to generations of school children – reaching over three quarters of a million students and teachers throughout the country! Every Music in the Classroom concert series is a special musical experience for the thousands of children who attend and this year is especially so. After 25 years we have a fresh new beginning.

To celebrate we have a programme that will bring more laughter and learning than ever before right into your classroom, plus we’ll invite some old friends and special guests to join in the fun. The concert will feature great pieces especially written for children like, Carnival of the Animals, The Teddy Bear’s Picnic and The Weird! Story of Red Riding Hood.

There will be plenty great songs to sing with us including The Hans Andersen Medley, Songs in Irish and even an ABBA Medley. And that’s not all, we’ll have a Sandpaper Ballet, and a fella who can play Only One Note – a promise of fun and entertainment for all!

This series has brought immense rewards for students and for teachers – and not forgetting for the musicians themselves. As Gearóid Grant says:

I meet young music teachers now who tell me their first experience of a concert was at Music In The Classroom and it was such a joyful one. That’s hugely important. Making music come alive and making it interesting for little kids – they’re dying to know things about music and if you tell them they’re dying to learn. That’s magic.

An MP3 of music for the concerts will be sent directly to schools to help pupils prepare and fully benefit from this exhilarating live orchestra experience.

Pupil tickets €10, teachers go free.
