RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra sadness at the passing of Tom Briggs
It is with great sadness that we share with you news of the passing of Tom Briggs.
Tom joined the RTÉ SO on 8 September 1962. His final concert as Principal Third Horn of the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra on 16 September 2005 marked 43 years distinguished service under Principal Conductors Tibor Paul, Albert Rosen, Colman Pearce, Bryden Thomson, Janos Furst, George Hurst, Kasper de Roo, Alexander Anissimov and Gerhard Markson.
In the years thereafter Tom continued to be a great friend to the orchestra, returning occasionally as a guest player and frequently as a loyal customer supporting both the orchestra and, particularly, his daughter, Melanie, our friend and colleague in 2nd Violins.
Tom was dearly loved by many as a musician, a colleague and a friend. He was a gentleman. May he rest in peace. Our deepest sympathies to his beloved wife, Anna, his son, Simon, his daughters, Carla and Melanie, the wider family and his many friends in music and beyond.
This evening’s RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra LIVE, with Chief Conductor Jaime Martín, will be dedicated to Tom’s memory. It can be viewed on rte.ie/culture.
