Job Details: Tutti 1 Viola, RTÉ Concert Orchestra (Sitting No. 4, sitting up as required) 

This position will be offered on an ongoing employment basis at the grade of Tutti 1 (salary range of €40,160 – €50,516 gross per annum), subject to successful completion of a trial period.

Location: Radio Centre, RTÉ Donnybrook, National Concert Hall, Dublin and other locations as required

RTÉ is Ireland’s national public-service media organisation. A leader in Irish media, RTÉ provides comprehensive, cost-effective, free-to-air multi-media services to the public in Ireland and interested audiences internationally. RTÉ is a major contributor to the cultural life of Ireland and is also responsible for the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.  

Introducing orchestral music to new audiences since 1948, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra is celebrating its 75th Anniversary in 2023. The orchestra’s strong connection with the public saw it voted the World’s Favourite Orchestra in 2015, and its eclectic programming has seen the RTÉ CO perform with artists as diverse as Luciano Pavarotti, Lang Lang, Lalo Schifrin, Marvin Hamlisch and Cleo Laine. Performances with Irish artists include Declan O’Rourke, Sinéad O’Connor, Imelda May, Eleanor McEvoy, Wallis Bird, Maura O’Connell, Lisa Hannigan, Mick Flannery, James Vincent McMorrow, Faye O’Rourke, Andrea Corr and Jerry Fish.  

The RTÉ CO performed in seven Eurovision Song Contests, including the famous Riverdance interval act. Film credits include Stephen Rennicks’ score to Room and Brian Byrne’s Golden Globe-nominated score to Albert Nobbs. Recordings include Korngold’s Violin Concerto with Andrew Haveron conducted by John Wilson, Howard Shore’s A Palace Upon the Ruins and Niall Horan’s Flicker. 

Opera, ballet and choral performances include collaborations with Irish National Opera, English National Ballet and Our Lady’s Choral Society. Films performed with live score include the Lord of the Rings trilogy, the world premiere of Vertigo and the Irish premiere of A Nightmare Before Christmas. 

Early summer 2023 will see the orchestra present Marty in the Evening with RTÉ lyric fm’s Marty Whelan in Dublin and Wexford, The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber at the National Concert Hall with leading West End vocalists Killian Donnelly and Louise Dearman, and Guy Barker’s History of Soul with acclaimed vocalist Vanessa Haynes and Strictly Come Dancing singing star Tommy Blaize.
