The RTÉ Philharmonic Choir has been at the centre of choral music in Ireland since its foundation by Colin Mawby in January 1985.The choir was further developed by chorus masters Mark Duley (1996-2011) and Mark Hindley (2011-2018) and has become the country’s premier symphonic choral ensemble , performing over 100 major choral works since its foundation, mostly with the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra. The choir’s concerts are broadcast live on RTÉ lyric fm and it has recorded for Naxos, Decca and RTÉ. Recent reviews refer to The Phil as being “highly responsive and at the top of its game” – (Irish Times 2017).

The 160 choir members, all amateur volunteers, meet on Wednesday evenings for rehearsals in RTÉ, with occasional Saturday workshops giving the opportunity to work more intensively on technique and musicianship. Please contact Lesley if you are interested in joining (lesley.bishop@rte.ie) , and have a look at our Sing With Us section below.

The Phil has at its heart the desire to communicate the music in all its glory to its audience, and share with every one of them the uplifting power of song!

July 2018: The choir is currently recruiting for a new Chorus Master to succeed Mark Hindley, interested individuals should contact Anthony Long : anthony.long@rte.ie
Closing date Sunday 9 September 2018
