The RTÉ Philharmonic Choir has been at the centre of choral music in Ireland since its foundation by Colin Mawby in 1985.The choir was further developed by chorus masters Mark Duley (1996-2011) and Mark Hindley (2012-2018) and has become the country’s leading symphonic choral ensemble with well over a hundred classical choral works in its repertoire. David Young was appointed as the choir’s newest Chorus Master in June 2019.

The choir consists of 160 dedicated amateur singers of all ages and walks of life, some coming from as far away as Cork, Wexford, Longford, Roscommon and Tipperary to attend weekly rehearsals in the RTÉ Radio Centre, Dublin. The choir performs up to six concerts each season (September-May), acting as a symphonic chorus for the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra as well as occasional stand-alone concerts and recordings. The choir has recorded for Naxos, Decca and RTÉ, with recent reviews referring to it being on “glorious form” and “thrilling”.
