The RTÉ Concert Orchestra, under the baton of Polish conductor Anna Sułkowska-Migoń perform an evening of cinematic soundtracks, showcasing the drama and melody of theatrical and filmic scores. The winner of the prestigious La Maestra competition in Paris (2022), Sułkowska-Migoń returns to join the RTÉ CO following the successful The Elements of Genius concert in October 2023.

The evening will include stunning performances of theatrical string sensations new and old, including orchestral suites from Prokofiev’s Romeo & Juliet, and Hildur Gudnadottir’s ominous Joker soundtrack, filled with dark, droning cello, winner of both a Golden Globe Award and an Academy Award for Best Original Score, as well as a BAFTA Award for Best Original Music.

Showcasing the breadth of John Williams’s career, the majestic theme from Jurassic Park (1993) will rouse dinosaurian angst, while pieces from the Harry Potter soundtrack will bring back familial nostalgia of the wizarding world.

John Barry’s soundtrack to The Living Daylights, the 1987 James Bond film, brings Barry’s signature emotive strings to the beloved Bond theme, creating a menacing and moving suite, while the soundtrack to Dances with Wolves (1990), also a winner of Academy Award for Best Original Score, sweeps through beautiful phrasing, painting landscapes of the prairie.

As well as heightened melodrama, the Orchestra pay homage to classical, haunting sorrow with Barber’s Adagio for the Strings, as heard in The Elephant Man (1980), Platoon (1986), Amélie (2001) and more.

In 1990, Cinema Paradiso won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, and Ennio Morricone’s unforgettable soundtrack underscores the magic of falling in love with cinema; enjoy a performance of the Main Theme in tribute to the maestro and the movies.

Presented by the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
