New RTÉ CO recordings for International Women’s Day

One of the standout tracks in Ireland over the last few months was the Saw Doctors song N17 as performed by Tolu Makay and the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, with Tolu recording in Radio Centre and the members of the orchestra recording their parts separately at home. The RTÉ CO is continuing to get exciting, creative projects over the line even when having to work at a distance from each other and from the artists. Its latest initiative is a set of recordings getting their first outings today on RTÉ Radio 1 and RTÉ lyric fm to mark International Women’s Day. Dana Masters, Emma Langford and Jane Willow were each invited to join the orchestra – virtually – each performing one of her own songs. The musical jigsaws were then expertly put together by sound engineer Ruth Kennington. The result is a classy and distinctive way to celebrate International Women’s Day and the latest in the RTÉ CO’s mission to fulfil its public service remit and create fresh and relevant work in lockdown conditions.
